  1. Novell UPS.NLM does not support UPS monitoring via the serial port.
  2. Your options are summarized in the following "Table of Contents."

  13. Jumper 1 (JMP1): 
  14.     set to the S2 position, indicating that closed contacts
  15.     will signify a Low Battery condition.

  17. Jumper 5 (JMP5):
  18.     set to the S10 position, indication that closed contacts
  19.     will signify an Inverter On condition.
  20.  
  21. All other jumpers should remain in their default positions. For more 
  22. information, refer to the "Novell SFT/Advanced Netware 286 Manual,"
  23. page 2-22, or the appropriate Netware 386 manual.

  26. 2 - Disk coprocessor board (37 pin version) DCB

  28. Select jumper position S-18 indicating that closed 
  29. contacts will signify a Low Battery condition.

  32. contacts will signify an Inverter On condition.

  84. 5 - Third Party Software for Serial Port Monitoring 
  85. ---------------------------------------------------
  86. If you *must* use the serial port, then you'll need a third party 
  87. UPS monitor software package. Deltec, Topaz, Toshiba, Exide, IPM, 
  88. Sola, and many other UPS vendors use PowerMon Software.
  89. Best can use PowerMon, but you'll get advanced functions 
  90. by using Best's "CheckUPS/II."

  97. PowerMon is a very simple implementation of relay monitoring. The relays
  98. change status of the COM port, and PowerMon interprets these signals as
  99. triggers for messages and shutdown scripts.

  101. If you want interactive UPS monitoring, diagnostics, charts and graphs, and
  102. so on, move up to CheckUPS/II NLM.  CheckUPS/II goes beyong simple relays,
  103. and uses a fully asyncronous interface with the UPS to read the actual
  104. voltage, current, runtime, etc. CheckUPS/II for Novell is a complete 
  105. client/server power management package, and unique in the industry.
